Derek McInnes has no intention of leaving Hearts for Rangers, according to a report.

The Jambos boss has been touted as one of the leading candidates to replace Russell Martin at Ibrox after surging to the top of the Premiership table with the capital club.

After taking over from Neil Critchley in the summer, McInnes has turned fortunes around at Tynecastle with six wins and a draw from their opening seven games.

A 2-0 win at Ibrox last month only hammered a further nail into Martin’s coffin while boosting McInnes’ own standing.

Saturday’s dramatic last gasp Edinburgh derby win over Hibs ensure Hearts would stay at the summit over the international break.

The 54-year-old was immediately suggested as the ideal candidate to fix the situation he would inherit in Govan, although questions were raised over whether he would be willing to leave the capital only a few months after taking the job.

And those have now been answered, with the Edinburgh Evening News reporting that McInnes has reassured the Hearts hierarchy that he is going nowhere and remains fully committed to his Gorgie gig.

Hearts had briefed earlier in the week that they were comfortable with the situation despite speculation.

Having knocked back an approach from Rangers while in charge of Aberdeen back in 2017, it seems this time it’s not even a role McInnes is prepared to consider.

That leaves Steven Gerrard as the clear front runner to make a sensation return to Ibrox.

He is reportedly set to meet with Gers chiefs this week to discuss a second spell in charge of the Light Blues, almost four years after leaving to take over at Aston Villa.
