TV 2, one of two EBU members in Norway, is discussing whether it will vote in an EBU organised vote on Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.
The Norwegian broadcaster TV 2 is discussing internally whether it will take part in a vote on whether Israel should compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. TV2 as a full member of the European Broadcasting Union, will be able to vote in November to determine whether Israel will be able to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. An extraordinary General Assembly will be held, with Israel’s participation in the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, determined by a simple majority of members either voting for or against Israel being allowed to compete in the contest.
In a statement, Jan-Petter Dahl, the Press Manager for TV 2 commented:
“As a member of the EBU, TV 2 has also been notified that it will be called to a meeting in November. TV 2 does not have the rights to Eurovision in Norway, and we will await the call before we consider whether it is natural for TV 2 to participate.”
TV 2 was one of a number of Nordic broadcasters to have taken part in a meeting in Reykjavík, where among the topics discussed, was the Eurovision Song Contest.
TV 2 is one of twenty-nine full member broadcasters in the European Broadcasting Union that does not currently participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. In addition, it falls into a similar scenario to the below members, where it is unable to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest as another full member broadcaster currently holds the rights to compete in the competition:
TV 2 (Denmark)
ZDF (Germany)
TG4 (Ireland)
MSP (Luxembourg)
United Kingdom Independent Broadcasting (United Kingdom)
