EXCLUSIVE: Kai Luke Brummer (Moffie) has been tapped for a recurring role in Bloodaxe, Prime Video’s Viking drama created by Vikings‘ Michael Hirst and his son, Horatio Hirst.
Brummer plays Strut-Harald, one of the brothers of Gunnhild, played by Jessica Madsen. As previously announced, Xavier Molyneux stars opposite Madsen, with Levi Miller, Karlis Arnolds Avots, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie and Rune Temte also among the main cast. Jesper Christensen and Marc Rissmann also recur.
Produced by MGM Television, a division of MGM Studios, Bloodaxe follows Erik Bloodaxe (Molyneux), one of history’s most famous Norse raiders, and his formidable wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, as they fight for the throne of Norway. In the process, the land is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties and bloody betrayals. With war looming and chaos consuming the kingdom — drawing in the ruthless kings of other Scandinavian countries and even a powerful English ruler — the stage is set for a thundering, cataclysmic and utterly magical new Norse saga.
Bloodaxe is executive produced by Michael and Horatio Hirst, who will also serve as showrunners and writers. Additional executive producers include Morgan O’Sullivan under his O’Sullivan Productions label, Steve Stark under his Toluca Pictures banner, Arturo Interian, John Weber, Sheila Hockin and Fred Toye.
Earlier this year, Brummer starred in Amy Jephta’s critically acclaimed play A Good House at The Royal Court Theatre and Bristol Old Vic. His breakout performance came as the lead in 2019’s Moffie, directed by Oliver Hermanus. The film premiered at the 76th Venice Film Festival and earned Brummer rave reviews. He later reprised his role as Nicholas van der Swart in the one-man play Moffie, which ran for four weeks at Riverside Studios in London under the direction of Greg Karvellas, also to critical acclaim.
A South African native, Brummer has won a Naledi Award for Best Actor, the most prestigious acting honor in South Africa. His feature credits include the sci-fi drama Touchdown and Warner Bros.’ Eraser: Reborn. Television credits include the crime thriller series Desert Rose and the drama Professionals, opposite Brendan Fraser. He is repped by Denton Brierley and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
