The 23-year-old joins the club on a short term deal from Sky Bet League One side Barnsley.

The shot-stopper, who came through the ranks at Wolverhampton Wanderers, commented:

“I’m buzzing. It’s been a quick turnaround, but good to meet all the lads, and I’m really looking forward to it.

“All the conversations have been positive, what the gaffer wants to see from me, and it’s down to myself to go out and do that.

“I’ve known Kevin [Berkoe] since I was 16/17, to see him is brilliant and I look ahead to sharing the pitch with him again.

“Everyone dreams of playing in the FA Cup, I’m sure the fans will be up for it and will make it special.”

Smith joined Wolves at just eight years old and was a regular in both their Under-18 and Under-23 sides. He linked up with the First Team’s pre-season tour of Spain and Portugal in 2022.

After spells on loan at non-league sides Frickley Athletic and Kettering Town, he signed for Walsall on an initial six-month loan which was made permanent in the summer of 2023. In his first full season, Smith won the Saddlers’ Young Player Of the Year Award, making 30 appearances.

A move to Barnsley followed before a month-long loan at Grimsby Town last season, appearing seven times at Blundell Park.

Welcome, Jackson!

The loan move is subject to FA clearance.
