One of Leigh Leopards’ most exciting players has confirmed that their season is over with the extent of their injury revealed.
It’s been clear for the majority of the season that full-back David Armstrong has not been fully fit and the NRL recruit has seen game time managed, however, that’s not prevented him from suffering a season-ending injury.
After suffering ‘niggles’ for much of the year as Adrian Lam phrased it, the full-back finally succumbed to his injury against Leeds Rhinos in June.
It has since been confirmed that the full-back will miss the remainder of the season with Sky Sports initially reporting it to be a nine-month recovery, though Adrian Lam stopped short of giving a true diagnosis when speaking in early July to confirm Armstrong’s season as over.
We’ve now had an update from the player himself though with Leigh Leopards’ number one taking to Instagram to share an image of himself in a hospital bed, confirming the extent of his injury in an emotional update.
Leigh Leopards man makes extraordinary injury revelation
Sharing an image which showed his leg in a brace, Armstrong confirmed that he had suffered a ruptured ACL.
More incredible was the fact he claims to have played three and a half games in such a condition, raising serious questions about why such a serious injury wasn’t uncovered earlier.
Posting on Instagram, he said: “Pretty shattered to have my year end like this and have my favourite thing I look forward to every week taken away from me just like that.
“3 and a half games on a ruptured ACL – do not recommend.”
He’d add: “Although i’d love to be out there I can’t wait to watch this group do something special this year.
“Thank you to everyone who reached out with their kind messages and support i appreciate y’all.”
Leigh will now have to rally around their young full-back who has suffered a devastating injury and looks set for a lengthy spell out of the game.
On the field, they will be able to replace him with Bailey Hodgson as they push for silverware but it doesn’t discount what an immense loss Armstrong is.
All at Serious About Rugby League wish him the best in his recovery.
