Britain’s Got Talent star Dave Betton has died aged 82. The singer appeared on the ITV talent show in 2020 and received a standing ovation from the audition for his rendition of That’s Life by Frank Sinatra.

Dave performed on the show alongside his son Dean and his Britain’s Got Talent appearance represented his return to the stage after retiring a decade earlier. The performance impressed Simon Cowell, who hailed the father/son duet as being just what he needed.

On the ITV show, Simon said: “There are certain days I think what I need is a mug of hot chocolate. And you were that mug of hot chocolate. You made me feel good and I needed that.”

Amanda Holden was also impressed as she said how they “smashed it”. Dave was originally from Chesterfield but relocated to Blackpool as he pursued his career in singing.

According to our sister site, Mirror Online, his son, Dean, paid tribute to his dad as he confirmed the sad news of his death .

He said: “I always looked up to Dad and he inspired me to take up singing, quite late in the game.

“He was definitely a local legend in his time – he would pack out the clubs.

“I wanted him to experience a big live TV audience, even though he’d retired, and when we got such a huge response on Britain’s Got Talent, I was made up. I felt so proud of him, he knocked them out.

“The tributes he has received this last week on my post about his death on Facebook has been phenomenal with over 400 messages.”

Dave reportedly died from sepsis last month and his funeral will be held on October 27.
