The semifinal second leg was abandoned on Sunday after 13 completed heats with the two sides locked at 87-87 on aggregate.

That came after a heat 14 crash that saw Jake Allen crash and his bike cleared the safety fence and struck the secondary barrier beyond it, with the heat awarded.

Three supporters needed medical attention, with two taken to hospital for precautionary checks, with both discharged later that evening, with all three home without serious injury, the Bears said in a statement.

Allen, too, confirmed on social media that he was ‘extremely lucky’ to come away with no lasting injuries.

But the 4-2 awarded to Glasgow in that heat meant the aggregate scores were level, so the semifinal went to countback and Redcar came out on top with eight heat gains over the two legs to Glasgow’s seven.

Pirates, who have beaten Redcar three times in their last three meetings to progress to the Championship Grand Final and to win the KO Cup, will now face them again in the BSN Series final.

The first leg will be held at the Ecco Arena in Redcar this coming Saturday, October 18, while the concluding leg will be held at Wimborne Road the following Wednesday, October 22.
