Widnes Vikings Women produced a stunning fightback to be crowned League One Champions, defeating Wakefield Trinity 16-12 in Sunday’s Grand Final.
After falling 12-4 behind, the Vikings showed determination and resilience to turn the game on its head, to lift the trophy and secure promotion to the Women’s Championship for 2026.
Naoimh Gill-Ward and Becky Webb crossed for tries before Sammy Traynor scored the winner, with Aimee Wood adding two goals to seal victory.
It was a fitting end to a fantastic campaign for the Women’s Team, who finished top of League One after the conclusion of the regular season, winning 14 from 15 games.
Head Coach, Dom Dean said: “It’s been some season, what a group we’ve got here.
“I honestly love coaching this group of players. We’ve come a long way in a short space of time. They deserve it and I’m proud of what they’ve achieved.”
General Manager, Tim Holmes, said: “This is an incredible achievement for our Women’s team and a proud moment for everyone at the club. The commitment, resilience, and togetherness they’ve shown all season have been outstanding.
“To win the Grand Final and earn promotion is a huge reward for their hard work, and we couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve accomplished.”
