Catalans Dragons have announced another signing, and it comes in the shape of a Championship back rower that has taken the league by storm since his arrival.
The Dragons have already announced nine signings ahead of next year, with key names such as Lewis Dodd and Toby Sexton joining the club.
Additions in the pack have come in abundance too, with Australian imports Josh Allen and Iszac Fa’asuamaleaui joining the Perpignan ranks to add size and speed to the Joel Tomkins’ squad.
Now, another addition has been confirmed, with Widnes Vikings back rower, Ben Condon, arriving on a two-year deal.
Condon was due to play Super League this year, after agreeing terms with Leigh Leopards before the season began. However, a failed medical meant that the move fell though, and it took until June for him to move to the northern hemisphere, where he joined the Vikings in their push for Super League status.
In his 10 appearances at the club, he scored five tries, and instantly stood out as he became one of Widnes’ key men.
Those appearances have attracted the interest of the Dragons, and after last week’s announcement that he would leave the Vikings to pursue a Super League opportunity, his destination has now been confirmed.
It may have took 12 months longer than expected, but at just 25, the 6’4 back rower is expected to be a starter in Super League, and will be competing with Ben Garcia and fellow arrival Zac Lipowicz for a spot in the 13.
His new head coach, Tomkins, is delighted to secure his signature, and praised his professionalism and development over the previous year.
He said: “I’ve been really impressed with Ben’s character and maturity during our conversations and he’s proven his motivation and ability over the last 12 months.
“He has been on my radar for a while so when he became available it was an easy decision to offer Ben a contract. We are looking forward to welcoming him in to the Dragons team and giving him the environment to take his game to the next level.”
