Hollyoaks pub The Dog has its grand reopening next week – but when Tony Hutchinson is preoccupied, will ex-wife Diane discover his secret fling with Mercedes McQueen?
Despite feeling hopeful about his future with Diane, Tony’s mood sours when he receives multiple missed calls from Mercedes. As the McQueens tell her to back off, festivities get underway at the Dog – but Tony’s mind is elsewhere.
Previously, Tony was engaged to Marie, played by former EastEnders star Rita Simons. Their relationship broke down after Marie’s son Arlo bullied Tony’s son Ro as part of Ro’s powerful transgender youth storyline, leaving Marie heartbroken.
With Rita set to leave Hollyoaks later this year, fans have been wondering what exactly her exit storyline could involve, and whether she could get her revenge on Tony.
Hollyoaks star Alex Fletcher reveals whether her character Marie will stir up any more drama for Diane and Tony…

Hi Alex! How would Diane react if she found out about him and Mercedes?
She’d be absolutely livid. Her of all people, it’s a bit sick what’s he’s done, it’s not okay. So I think she’d be a bit disgusted with him. You’d just be like, “You know what, you can have him. Do me a favour, you can have him, no problem!”
Do you think they could have any more trouble from Marie before her exit?
I don’t think she’s going to be going quietly, is she? She’s such a big character, we’re gutted she’s going. I think it’d be a waste to just finish and not try and stitch Tony up – I feel like there’s some unfinished business there!

Could Diane and Marie become friends again?
I hope so, I hope I get some more stuff with Rita [Simons, aka Marie]. I think it’s going to go a bit dark – I can’t see it being happy families.
