I first came across Pez fan George from San Diego way back in 2012 when I created the Readers’ Rigs column and I have to say – his Fondriest 4 speed really got people talking. At a time when companies are adding gears and we’ve gone from 9 speed, to 10, to 11 and more, George went the other way completely with his Fondriest. He’s since featured on PEZ with an equally unique Bianchi plus a museum retro stunner and now he’s back again – this time with a different Italian brand, Guerciotti.

Name: George Argiris

Weight: 13.6lbs (6.1kg) and with me (65.6kgs)
When did you buy it?
I bought the frame in April 2025 (NOS Ebay find) and then built it up from there.
What components are you running?
Sram Red shifters with Modified Campy Record rear, 3T/ITM cockpit, FSA cranks.

Yep, that’s a straight block six speed!
Did you ever think to just leave the gears as standard?
Been running straight blocks since 1980 (53-39), (12-17 six speed) ‘intimidation gearing’, I don’t get screwed with when they notice. Only beaten once in a hill sprint back in 1984, but that’s another story.

Lots of custom Italian touches on George’s Guerciotti
How many miles do you do a year?
8,000 give or take
What do you love about this bike?
Just has the geometry that I like. I don’t like where the new bikes have been going. I don’t need a sloping top tube, don’t need drop seat stays, don’t need disc brakes, don’t need through axle, don’t need glasses bigger then my head, and most of all, don’t need the rear cassette to be the same size as the disc brake! “Che Cazzo” (WTF)

Favorite riding area?
Climbs of San Diego then stopping at a cafe for a ‘caffe corretto’.
Favorite riding experience on your bike?
Continuing to beat up the young on climbs. I still ride as if there’s a race on Sunday.

George loves his toys…
Future upgrades?
None needed, I build them the way I like from the get go.
Last words?
“Cavalco da più tempo di quanto tu sia vecchio” (I’ve been riding longer than you are old)
