The Celebrity Traitors is continuing a now-infamous show tradition, with the misspelling of names resurfacing in spectacular fashion.
For three gripping series, we’ve watched as contestants write the most bizarre variations of their peers’ names during the round table vote – sometimes in disbelief, but always in awe over what we’re seeing on those slates week after week.
We know that sometimes getting it wrong can’t be helped, but it’s hard not to be distracted by some of the wilder examples.
What to Read Next
So, as the latest iconic blunder played out, we’re looking back at the most memorable, baffling and downright funny misspelling mishaps through the archives.
“Tom Daylee” – by Niko
BBC
Did Niko deliberately deviate from the correct version, which is of course Tom Daley, in order to continue the running gag?
Whether it was a genuine mistake or a cheeky nod to previous ones, Niko’s decision certainly made an impact and made the round table slightly less tense!
“Charlot” – by Harry, series 2
BBC
An early entry from Traitor and champion Harry, and a unique alternate spelling. As a dyslexic, he of course gets a free pass, but we couldn’t help but smile at the unintended effect.
“Nather” – by Keith, series 3
BBC
Nathan’s name had quite the revamp and the visual effect was quite something, making this misspelling particularly unforgettable.
“Lianne” – by Dan, series 3
BBC
Again, it’s not totally wild as an alternative – Leanne only lost one of her actual vowels and gained another – but we did have to wonder where it came from.
“Armania” – by Jake, series 3
BBC
Adding an extra letter to a name that looks exactly like it sounds was an interesting choice. However, these things happen – and we welcomed the entertainment. Definitely one of the more impressive entries.
“Mina” – by Alexander, series 3
BBC
Traitor Minah – who by this point had no more flying ones to give – called out Alexander herself for leaving the ‘h’ out and to his credit he looked aghast. Because this was just one of many times her name had graced the boards with the incorrect spelling…
“Meina” – by Anna, series 3
BBC
With her confused reaction as she surveyed Anna’s slate, Minah looked more bothered by the misspelling than by being correctly sussed out. Maybe it’s time for The Traitors to invest in some name badges?
The Celebrity Traitors is on BBC1 Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9pm and on BBC iPlayer.
