Excellent Truth: sold for €1,600,000 at the Arqana Vente d’Elevage last year | Sarah Andrew

High-class fillies Nyra, Egina and Daylight headline the catalogue for the 2025 edition of the Arqana Vente d’Elevage, which takes place from December 6-9.

The first part of the catalogue features 248 mares, fillies and foals, with Nyra set to be one of the early highlights when she is offered as lot 187. Trained by Waldemar Hickst, the daughter of Isfahan gained her biggest success to date in July’s G3 Hamburger Stutenpreis, before also finishing a close-up third in the G1 Preis der Diana. She is out of a half-sister to the multiple Group 1-winning sire Novellist (Monsun) and Irish Oaks heroine Magical Lagoon (Galileo).

Last seen filling the runner-up spot in the G2 T von Zastrow Stutenpreis, Nyra was beaten just a neck on that occasion by the four-year-old Egina, who will be offered during the same session as lot 202. Previously this season, the daughter of Soldier Hollow had won a pair of Listed races and finished third in the G3 Grosser Preis von Lotto Hamburg. She hails from the family of the Classic winner Enora (Noverre).

Meanwhile, Daylight will go through the ring as lot 206, having finished second on her most recent outing in the G3 Prix de Meautry. The daughter of Earthlight and Listed scorer Latita (Silver Frost) notably finished third in the G1 Prix Morny and second in the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes as a two-year-old, as well as winning the G3 Prix de Cabourg.

In total, 1002 lots have been catalogued, including 462 mares, 219 fillies in and out of training, 301 foals and five stallions. Previous graduates of the Vente d’Elevage include the dams of this year’s Group 1 winners Big Mojo (Mohaather), Dynamic Pricing (Night Of Thunder), Gewan (Night Of Thunder), Leffard (Le Havre), Royal Patronage (Wootton Bassett), Via Sistina (Fastnet Rock), Woodshauna (Wooded) and Zavateri (Without Parole). Meanwhile, Excellent Truth was bought by Stamford Bloodstock and Meridian Bloodstock for €1,600,000 in 2024, before going on to win July’s GI Diana Stakes for Resolute Racing in America.

Other potential highlights this year include the Listed-placed Jokla (Zarak) (lot 188), who is from the family of the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Solemia (Poliglote); G3 Prix Miesque runner-up Lhakpa (Siyouni) (lot 189), a half-sister to the G2 Challenge Stakes winner Beauvatier (Lope De Vega); the Listed-placed Imparable (lot 192), a daughter of Lope De Vega and the dual Group 2 scorer Impassable (Invincible Spirit); and the Listed winners Gala Real (Wootton Bassett) (lot 199) and Safia (Sottsass) (lot 212).
