Former Ireland goalkeeper Paddy Kenny required oxygen treatment after being knocked unconscious during a charity boxing bout.

The 47-year-old was floored by ex-Premier League defender Curtis Davies in the opening round of their clash.

The duo were participating in a charitable event organised by former Arsenal goalkeeper Graham Stack to raise funds for Helping Hands, Willow, Sport In Mind, and Play Skill, with organisers hoping to reach a £500,000 target, reports the Irish Mirror.

Ex-Sheffield United shot-stopper Kenny and 40-year-old Davies wasted little time getting stuck into each other in the centre of the ring.

Both combatants landed significant blows before Kenny was sent crashing to the floor and ruled out by the official.

Following oxygen assistance, Kenny managed to get back on his feet whilst Davies was announced as the knockout victor.

Davies commented post-fight: “Really pleased, I’ve worked hard for this, it’s bittersweet, I love Paddy to bits, I didn’t want to have to knock him about but that’s what we’re here to do.

“It’s all for charity, yes, but I enjoyed that win.”

Meanwhile on an evening featuring exclusively former footballers, ex-Spurs midfielder David Bentley was defeated by former Chelsea star Jody Morris.

Ex-Reading forward Leroy Lita overcame David Noble, whilst Anthony Gardner emerged victorious against Lee Trundle, and Marvin Elliott triumphed over Greg Halford in the evening’s second-to-last encounter.
