A thoroughbred race meeting will be held at the Lark Hill Thoroughbred Training Complex on 26 April 2026, showcasing Western Australian racing to the broader Rockingham community.

Following consultation with industry stakeholders, the Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) Board has approved the proposal in principle.

The initiative follows an application from a group of local community members, who expressed strong interest in hosting an annual community race meeting at Lark Hill.

Racing WA Chief Racing Officer David Hunter said it represented a valuable opportunity to further connect WA’s racing industry with the Rockingham community.

“Lark Hill is one of the State’s premier thoroughbred training facilities, and many of our industry participants live in and around Port Kennedy and the wider Rockingham area,” he said.

“This race meeting is a fantastic opportunity to engage with the local community and introduce more people to the excitement of thoroughbred racing.”

Perth Racing will host the race meeting, which will offer stakes equivalent to a country thoroughbred race meeting.

Mark Pink, who is part of the community group behind the idea, said the committee was looking forward to a fantastic event that celebrated racing and brought people together.

“The newly formed Lark Hill Racing Club is thrilled to have Racing WA and Perth Racing guide us through our initial community race meeting at Lark Hill,” he said.

“All of us on the committee share a deep passion not only for the sport, but also for our Rockingham community.”

Perth Racing CEO James Oldring added: “Perth Racing is happy to help facilitate the meeting at Lark Hill, and we hope that it is well received by the local community to reward the endeavours of Mark and his team who have worked hard to make this a possibility,” he said.
