Pete is a winner!
Gemma Atkinson delivers the good news to Pete
Listener Pete Davies was left speechless – after landing £570,000 in a radio competition. The Leek resident has branded the Hits Radio victory as ‘life-changing’.
It was down to drive-time show host Gemma Atkinson to deliver the news when she made the call.
She told Pete: “Hello, this is Gemma Atkinson, and I’m calling with some wonderful news my friend, you have just won £570,000.”
Stunned Make Me A Winner entrant Pete could manage an ‘erm’ followed by silence which prompted actress and reality TV star Gemma to say ‘hello?’ – and got the same back.
She then asked who she was speaking to and Pete composed himself to reveal just how delighted he was.
He told listeners: “I can’t believe it. I have been entering every week since it was £180,000. It’s life-changing, I can’t believe it. Thank you very much!”
Gemma responded: “You do sound really, really shocked.”
Pete added “I am, I can’t believe it, I’ve never won anything in my life.”
Entrants have to answer within five rings to win the prize. More details on the contest can be found online here.
Hits Radio has swallowed up Signal Radio. The final local show – the Elliot and Matilda breakfast show – aired for the final time in June.
