Spire Cheshire Hospital says a ‘small number’ of roles are at risk of redundancies – which the Warrington Guardian understands could be as many as 13 theatre staff.

The hospital a private facility based in Stretton that is part of a healthcare group in the UK.

A spokesperson for Spire told the Warrington Guardian that it is unable to confirm the total number of staff members who will be impacted by the propose changes as the process is ongoing.

They said that the redundancies come as part of ‘proposed changes’ that ‘build on best practice’ across the healthcare group’s sites.

A spokesperson said: “We have shared some limited proposed changes to resourcing in Spire Cheshire Hospital with our colleagues locally, focused on providing safe, high-quality care more efficiently to meet the evolving needs of our patients, payors and consultants.

“These proposed changes build on best practice across our sites and are part of our on-going multi-year transformation programme, standardising how we work, digitising our processes and becoming more efficient.

“As a result of these proposals, we have taken the difficult decision to place a small number of roles at Spire Cheshire Hospital at risk of redundancy. There will be no reduction to patient-facing clinical hours or target safe staffing ratios.

“We have started a consultation process with Spire Cheshire colleagues and, as this process is on-going, we are unable to confirm a total number of colleagues who will be impacted by the proposed changes. We are fully committed to clear and open communication, fair consultation and supporting impacted colleagues throughout.”

Back in March of this year, Spire, which runs 38 hospitals and more than 40 clinics, medical centres and waiting rooms, confirmed it was making a number of redundancies in its administrative roles at the Stretton based hospital.

It said this was to help it meet ‘the evolving need’ of its patients.
