Junior motorcycle drag racer Alfie Barraclough, 12, of Thornton, had a CBBC documentary made about him, called My Life: The Fastest Boy in the World.

It has just been nominated for a Royal Television Society NW award in the Best School-Age Children’s Programme.

Alfie started riding motorbikes when he was just four-years-old.

The documentary follows the youngster as he competes in a drag racing championship and attempts to break land speed records.

Alfie’s father Karl Barraclough said: “The BBC contacted us in January or February last year about Alfie’s talent.

“Drag racing is quite a unique sport, and the cameras followed him around all of last year.

“The show has been put forward in the Best School-Age Children’s Programme category and it’s now a shortlist for the awards, alongside shows like Blue Peter.”

“Winners will be announced at a ceremony on Friday, November 21, where they will be rolling out the red carpet.”

“It’s massive with Alfie being from Bradford,” said Mr Barraclough.

“Getting put forward as a nominee is unbelievable.

“But Alfie himself always just takes in his stride.

“He’s more bothered about his racing and achieving his next goal.”

Alfie hits speeds of over 60mph

In the drag racing junior championships, the 12-year-old has reached top speeds of over 60mph.

However, his dad said: “Safety is paramount for Alfie.

“For example, if there is a strong crosswind during a competition, Alfie won’t race.

“We respect his decisions and never push him to race.

“He’ll watch how other riders handle conditions, and if it’s not safe he won’t race.

“At the end of the day, he’s riding a bike at over 60 mph.”

‘Alfie’s grown up with it’

Mr Barraclough, who is a fire rescue medical technician and attends drag racing events as part of his job, explained: “Alfie has grown up with the racing scene.

“He sat at these events from being in a pram, coming and watching.

“His father and grandfather are rescue technicians, so Alfie’s grown up with it.

“He’s just always had a keen interest in both the racing and rescue of the events.”

Alfie has also had another successful racing season.

He recently just finished and won the Melbourne Raceway Motorcycle Drag Racing Championship 2025 in the age 8 to 16 category.
