The Luxembourgish broadcaster RTL has confirmed that the international jury will have to evaluate a total of 83 songs have been submitted by 58 artists, competing to represent the Grand Duchy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.

The broadcaster explained that 59% of the submitted songs are in English, but many artists also use French (10%) and Luxembourgish (7%). In total, 6 languages were used among the submitted songs – English, French, Luxembourgish, Portuguese, Spanish, and German.

All artists had to meet three criteria: either have Luxembourgish nationality, have been resident in Luxembourg for at least 3 months, or have a connection to the Luxembourgish cultural and music scene. RTL informs that the candidates come from 17 different nationalities, and that the gender split is almost equal.

The artists that will advance from the round of live auditions will be announced on all RTL platforms on October 30.

The third edition of the Luxembourg Song Contest will take place on January 24 in Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette, according to a press statement released by the broadcaster. The live final will see several acts compete to represent Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Austria.

Luxembourg was one of seven countries to take part in the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Luxembourg participated in the contest 37 times before withdrawing from the contest after 1993. During these 37 years, they won the contest five times. The last of these victories came in 1983. Luxembourg came close to returning to the contest in 2004, but opted against it due to the financial cost of participating. They eventually returned in 2024, after an absence of 31 years.

News Editor here, polyglot who wants to learn too many languages in real life. Born in Italy and raised in Europe, I am currently enjoying Ireland’s seven victories. My first Eurovision was Tel Aviv 2019, but I managed to become a huge nerd in a very short time. Don’t ask me what my favourite entry is, I have too many!
