Kevin Bonaldo, 25-year-old cyclist of the SC Padovani Polo Cherry Bank team, died Friday morning at the San Bortolo hospital in Vicenza. For a month he had been fighting between life and death after suffering from a cardiac arrest at the end of the Piccola Sanremo race in Sovizzo, on September 21.Â
He was immediately attended to by the emergency services on the scene and rushed to the hospital, where he was admitted to intensive care and kept in an induced coma. Despite showing some signs of improvement in the following weeks, his condition worsened in the last hours before his death, accompanied by his family.
His brother stated on behalf of the family, “I want to thank everyone who supported and encouraged us during this month. Kevin felt all that encouragement and, until the end, he fought every day to recover. A very special thank you to all the doctors and staff at the San Bortolo hospital in Vicenza, to the team that accompanied us and to everyone who sent even a thought to Kevin.”
His team commented: “SC Padovani Polo Cherry Bank is devastated to announce that this morning, after a month in which he bravely fought between life and death, Kevin Bonaldo passed away. Our entity would like to express its closeness to Kevin’s family and all his loved ones.”
