Coronation Street favourite Todd Grimshaw was subjected to a bizarre form of abuse by his boyfriend Theo Silverton at the end of Friday night’s episode. Fans of the world’s longest-running TV soap will know that funeral director Todd struck up a relationship with Theo some time ago, although it was somewhat doomed from the start because the builder was married with children at the time and previously belonged to a religious cult.
While Theo is now separated from his wife, things have not been great between the pair for some time now and viewers have watched him slowly chip away at Todd in part of a coercive control plot. Already, Theo has ordered Todd to stop all contact with his ex-boyfriend Billy Mayhew, whom he has had a strictly platonic relationship with in the years since they split, and started to dictate other aspects of his life.
Then, earlier this week, things escalated again when Theo slept with someone else and while Todd split up with him, Theo manage to twist things round so he was quickly back in the picture. But in a complete act of love-bombing, Theo decided to spontaneously buy Todd an expensive car out of nowhere, and that is what spelled trouble for Todd again in the latest episode.

Todd took Sarah Platt to collect her son Harry but he accidentally spilled a milkshake over the back seat. Sarah told Theo she was happy to get it professionally cleaned, but he brushed it off as nothing major. But things took another bad turn when Todd accidentally scraped the car while reversing it later on, and hastily took it to Kevin Webster’s garage to be fixed.
At home, he cooked a fancy meal for himself and Theo, which was met with complaints, and when Theo asked him why the car was not outside, he explained that he’d moved it to a nearby car park for safety. Theo knew this was a lie as Kevin had warned him the car would not be ready until tomorrow. Launching into a fit of rage, Theo threw everything off the table and left Todd to clear up the mess as he continued his tirade.
When well-meaning Sarah called round with a bottle of wine to apologise for the spilled milkshake, Theo put on the nice act again but soon switched back. As Theo helped himself to a bowl of cereal, Todd tried to reason with Theo. He said: “I do get how this could be a slap in the face, I’m really, really sorry. Can we just agree that I’m a total waste of space and move on?”

Theo marched over to Todd and softly said: “Close your eyes,” before picking up the milk bottle and pouring the lot over Todd’s head.
The shocking scene was too much for some viewers to take, with one writing on X: “Such a hard watch today, horrible scenes for poor Todd, but well done to #corrie for highlighting what often goes on behind closed doors.”
Another said: “Please please please tell me someone heard Theo shouting and Todd manages to escape his control somehow,” and another declared: “Jesus……F’n………Christ………….Today, Theo is beyond redemption!”

This is not the first time Theo has inflicted some kind of physical abuse on Todd. Earlier this year, Theo was furious will Todd for going to the pub with his friends, and was even less impressed with Todd when he returned home with kebabs for them both.
In a disturbing end to that episode, which aired in Theo grabbed Todd and forced the kebab into his mouth as he told him: “You’re a grubby little man. I have packed my stuff, and I’m leaving. I don’t ever want to see you again,” before storming out, slamming the door behind him and leaving a distraught Todd to clean himself up.
