Nathan Sykes was moved to tears as his gorgeous fiancée, Charlotte Burke, made her way down the aisle at St Mary’s Church, Birdsall, in the North Yorkshire countryside on 11 October.
Reminiscing about the moment he first saw his soon-to-be wife, The Wanted star Nathan, 32, shares, “It was breathtaking. Clair De Lune by Debussy was playing, and Char was silhouetted in the doorway of the church with her dad – it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
“The light was coming from behind her, through her veil. I was like, ‘Oh my God!'” In their first joint interview with OK! and the Mirror, HR manager Charlotte, 30, chimes in, “It was the most perfect weekend, with perfect weather – clear skies, beautiful lighting and not too warm, which is always a bonus when you’re suited up.”

Despite the idyllic day, the build-up wasn’t without its stresses. “There’s so much pressure,” admits Nathan, who proposed during a romantic getaway to St Lucia in December 2022. “We both found it overwhelming.”
Charlotte, who took on most of the planning with assistance from the team at their reception venue, Grade II-listed Birdsall House, confesses that finding a dress was no simple task and she struggled to find a gown she loved. However, after a trip to TDR Bridal in Birmingham, home to over 700 dresses, she tried on a classic white fitted Justin Alexander Mikado dress with a chapel-length train and “knew straight away” it was the one.

She paired her dress with shoes from Charlotte Mills, while the groom chose a suit from Reiss and sported a Gucci bow tie, a cherished engagement gift from Charlotte.
Creating the guest list was a breeze for the couple, including 61 of their closest friends and family, among them Nathan’s bandmate from The Wanted, Jay McGuiness. The pair, who have been an item for eight years, simply jotted down a list of people they would be “devastated” not to have at their wedding.

Nathan, who had three best men – schoolmate Shea Davis, songwriter David Sneddon and producer Tobie Tripp – shares, “We had a room full of people we’re comfortable with, so it was a really safe space and allowed us to relax.”
When asked if his bandmates Siva Kaneswaran and Max George were invited, Nathan reveals, “We haven’t touched base recently, so I’m not sure they would have known the wedding date. With them being out in America at the time, we’ve not had the chance to [catch up], but I’m sure we will soon.” Naturally, Nathan’s thoughts drifted to his late bandmate, Tom Parker, who sadly passed away in March 2022.

“Milestones like weddings always remind you of the people you’ve lost and the impact they had on your life,” he reflects. “There were people on both sides [of the family] we’d have loved to share the day with, but we feel like how perfectly the day went was their way of celebrating with us.”
The night before their wedding, Nathan and Charlotte gathered with 50 friends and family at a local pub in Malton, where the atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation for the big day.
Charlotte explained their decision to break tradition and spend their last unmarried night together, saying, “We knew we’d both be quite nervous and we are each other’s safe space, so it made more sense for us to stay together.”

On the wedding day, Nathan and Charlotte’s dad, Conan, indulged in a relaxing deep-tissue massage while the bride was getting ready with her mum Angela, Nathan’s mother Karen, her six bridesmaids and two flower girls. However, the pampering left the groom feeling a bit too relaxed.
“The relaxing massage quickly turned into panic,” the singer chuckled, revealing he was still in the shower just 20 minutes before he was due to leave for St Mary’s, which is conveniently located on the estate grounds.
Charlotte also had her share of last-minute drama. “Four of my bridesmaids got locked in a bedroom,” she shared. “They nearly had to get a cherry picker to get them out of the window.”

Nathan quipped, “I almost wish they had – the pictures would have been amazing.” At the church, Charlotte’s mother, bridesmaids, flower girls and Nathan’s mum walked down the aisle ahead of her – a touching gesture designed to give the important women in her life their “special moment”.
Eager to sidestep any Married At First Sight-style blunders, the couple exchanged traditional vows before Nathan slipped a wedding ring – a bespoke extension of Charlotte’s platinum and diamond Douglas and Blair engagement ring – onto his new wife’s finger.
Though the ceremony was traditional, the rest of their love-filled day was far from ordinary. In a comical twist, guests were transported back to the reception venue on a trailer, pulled by a tractor.

“It had seats, so it was safe,” Charlotte reassures, noticing OK!’s worry. “People even erupted into a rendition of Old MacDonald Had A Farm!”
Upon arrival at the venue, the wedding party was welcomed by a string quartet playing Be Our Guest from Beauty And The Beast, followed by an unexpected tune – SisQó’s Thong Song. “Nathan thought it would be funny and, once everyone clicked what song it was, they were singing it at the top of their voices,” says Charlotte. “We really mixed it up.”
For their wedding breakfast, the “mostly vegan” pair chose a completely plant-based menu crafted by local chef Tom Coe. “We didn’t have a wedding cake,” Charlotte adds.

“We had scones with cream and jam during the reception, and then sticky toffee pudding during the wedding breakfast, so we thought that was plenty!”.
While the bride slipped into another dress for the evening, Nathan, who hadn’t planned a second outfit, had to make a swift change after spilling an espresso martini down his shirt.
The singer admits he found crafting his 15-minute speech “slightly overwhelming” and was still making final adjustments during the drinks reception.
“I was so proud of it,” he tells us. “I managed to speak about a lot of people in the room and tried to balance humour with it being touching.

“The most serious part was at the end, when I was talking to Charlotte directly. I guess it’s sometimes easy to forget to share just how much you care about each other.”
Nathan describes Charlotte’s father’s speech as “absolutely incredible”. “Charlotte is an only child and their bond is really special,” he explains. “She had tears in her eyes throughout.”
After the reception, the newlyweds enjoyed their first dance to From This Moment On by Shania Twain with a stunning outdoor fireworks display as their backdrop. Following a night of “taking full advantage” of the venue’s basement nightclub, the pair eventually retired to bed at 2.30am, utterly blissful.
“We just told each other about the day, like the other one wasn’t there,” laughs Charlotte.
Whilst they haven’t organised their honeymoon yet, reflecting on their magical day, Charlotte reveals, “We both feel like the whole weekend couldn’t have been more perfect. Everyone says it’s the best day of your life and it absolutely was – and more.”
