Dax Shephard may be able to hand his title of the Internet’s Least Favorite Celebrity Husband over David Harbour after a note the actor once sent now-ex-wife Lily Allen has resurfaced.
Fans have been theorizing about Harbour and Allen’s relationship and breakup after the October 24 release of her album, West End Girl, in which she sings about an open marriage and alludes to cheating allegations, among other things.
In the album’s titular track, Allen sings about landing a role in a play on London’s West End and telling someone, presumed to be Harbour. Allen and Harbour married in 2020 and separated in late 2024.
“That’s when your demeanor started to change,” Allen sings while reflecting on telling her partner the news about her play.
In the midst of the theories, fans have resurfaced several things that appear to show the Stranger Things actor’s lukewarm attitude towards Allen’s 2022 debut in the West End play 2:22 A Ghost Story.

Harbour Sent Allen a ‘Bad Luck’ Note Ahead of Her West End Debut
A fan on X shared a note Harbour sent to Allen in 2022 to mark her first show on the West End. “My ambitious wife, these are bad luck flowers, ’cause if you get reviewed well in this play you will get all kinds of awards and I’ll be miserable. Your loving husband,” the note read.

This note is so sinister in hindsight after listening to West End Girl. David Harbour could not stand that is wife might find success as an actress. He must have crashed out when she was nominated for an Olivier Award – equivalent to his Tony nomination. pic.twitter.com/8nTol9YwiV

For what it’s worth, Allen went on to get nominated for an Olivier Award for the role, rivaling Harbour’s 2005 Tony nomination.
In another resurfaced clip from the red carpet at the Olivier Awards, Harbour, while playing the role of supportive husband, jokingly pretended that a question directed at Allen was meant for him, briefly speaking over his wife before stepping back.

Going back a little further, Harbour also went with a backhanded compliment in a 2021 Instagram post to mark Allen’s first preview of her play, seemingly joking that he was going to try his hand at a music career after she stepped into his industry.
“Very proud of my slightly nervous, immensely brave, annoyingly talented wife @lilyallen who has her first preview of her play @222aghoststory tonight. Like, that she’s acting in! If you’re in London check it out at the Noel Coward til October something. Also, very excited to announce I’ve been working on a pop album. Get ready, cause it’s gonna suck!” he wrote.

Mind you, this is surfacing a week after Kristen Bell shared a happy birthday post to husband Dax Shepherd, revealing that he once told her: “I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.” Will these men ever learn how to give a real compliment?
