After nearly two years away from our screens, Jed Mercurio’s Trigger Point is back for season 3 – with Lana and the EXPO team facing yet another nail-biting threat.
Having returned on 26 October, it’s been a long time coming for fans of the ITV series. Known for getting the heart rate pumping, the show has become known as one of TV’s most tense (and often emotional) series. This time, the Bomb Disposal Squad and the Police Counter Terrorism Unit are working together to investigate a brand new bomb threat on the streets of London – one which is quickly revealed to be the handiwork of someone intent on revenge.
It didn’t take long for the drama to begin. In the first episode alone, an abandoned taxi with a chemical bomb strapped to its boot is left at an industrial site, with a man trapped inside alongside a note that reads, ‘confess or die.’
While there’s plenty of fan favourites returning to the EXPO team, there’s also some new faces joining the fold. Here’s everything to know about the cast, old and new, of Trigger Point season three.
Who is returning to the cast of Trigger Point season 3?
Vicky McClure as Lana Washington

Vicky (Line of Duty, This Is England) is returning to the series as lead character Lana, our explosive ordnance disposal specialist. Fans of the show will know no one’s had it tougher than Lana – with the explosives officer now grappling with PTSD and tinnitus. Teasing the new series, Vicky said, ‘She’s not coping. Lana is a strong person, and she likes to see herself as a perfectionist, but I think we very quickly see that’s starting to crumble.’

Nabil (Our Girl, Blue Lights, EastEnders) is back as Hass – a member of Lana’s team who took over her role during her leave of absence early on in the show. Come season three, Hass is now an ‘older uncle figure’ to Lana. Nabil said, ‘He’s concerned about her wellbeing, but he knows that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, so he’s very gentle with it.’
Kerry Godliman as Sonya Reeves

Kerry (Afterlife, Derek) is returning to the show as Sonya. Working as an analyst at the Bomb Data Centre, Sonya is also a close friend of Lana’s. Given Lana’s got a tricky season ahead, it’s thought Sonya will play a big part in supporting her through it all.
Eric Shango as Danny

Eric (Suspicion, On The Edge) plays the role of Danny, another member of Vicky’s team. Season 3 brings a shift for his character, who recently got married. Eric revealed, ‘[Danny’s] no longer thinking exclusively about his own wellbeing. Instead, he’s thinking about his wife and how his job could affect her.’
Maanuv Thiara as DCI Amar Batra

Maanav (Prime Target, Line of Duty) is returning to the cast as DCI Amar. Armed with a big new promotion, Maanuv said of Amar, ‘He’s a very good detective because he’s a details guy, but he’s not used to being in charge, and he’s not necessarily equipped to come head-to-head with such a strong personality as Lana.’
Natalie Simpson as DS Helen Morgan

©ITV
Having joined the Trigger Point cast in season 2, Natalie (Outlander, Blackwater Lane) is back as Met Police detective Helen. It’s set to be an emotional series for the DS, who is still grieving the heartbreaking death of DCI Thom Youngblood in season 2. Opening up about Helen’s journey in season 3, Natalie said, ‘There’s a concoction of emotions for Helen… I think she now feels quite embarrassed and perhaps a little bit helpless.’
Who is joining the cast of Trigger Point season 3?
Mark Rowley as Rich Manning

©ITV
One of our season 3 newbies, Mark (The Last Kingdom, SAS: Rogue Heroes, One Day) is joining as Rich, the ‘charismatic new colleague’ joining Lana’s team.
Jason Flemyng as Steven Wyles

©ITV
Jason (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Prime Suspect) will star as the mysterious Steven Wyles. Dubbing him a mix between ‘Hannibal Lecter and Che Guevara,’ Jason described Steven as being ‘a union boy, a working class lad, who just decides that the world has let him down.’
