William Osula’s long-term future at Newcastle United is still up in the air amid a “verbal agreement” behind the scenes.

The striker made headlines following his key role in Newcastle United’s win over Fulham on Saturday, adding to an impressive list of performances this season.

Still, it remains to be seen if Osula has a future at St James’ Park. Nick Woltemade is Eddie Howe’s star striker, while supporters are eagerly awaiting Yoane Wissa’s return from injury.

While Howe believes Osula is developing into a better player at Newcastle, there’s little doubt he faces a huge battle for regular starts when both Woltemade and Wissa are available.

Osula’s future at the club will come down to game time and there appears to be an understanding of that behind the scenes.

Indeed, according to The Chronicle, two German clubs remain keen on the former Sheffield United youngster.

Osula almost joined Eintracht Frankfurt on deadline day and they are said to retain an interest, along with Bayer Leverkusen.

The report goes on to suggest that the forward’s agents are “understood” to have a “verbal agreement” with the Newcastle United coaching staff

If he is not playing regularly by the time the January transfer window rolls around, perhaps he could depart.

Earlier this week, The Athletic also suggested that there is still a chance Osula could leave in January.

Eddie Howe on Will Osula:

“Will is vitally important, he is quick, he is athletic. He has a good attitude and better know how to manage game situations. He is now coming on the pitch looking like a complete package. Every time he has come on the pith, he has performed.

How much did Newcastle United pay to sign William Osula?

Osula could eventually cost Newcastle United up to £15million following his move from Sheffield United in 2024.

Given the fact that, at one point, Frankfurt were willing to pay around £30million for Osula this summer, Newcastle could stand to turn a huge profit on the player if he does end up leaving.

Still, the idea of him leaving no longer looks as certain as it once did. His pursuit of first-team football is understandable but keeping him at the club this summer is increasingly looking like an inspired decision.

There are certainly enough games for him to feature, even when Wissa and Woltemade are fit. Those appearances may not always come from the start, but Newcastle’s fixture schedule is so demanding that opportunities could well arise.
