Phwoar, who likes a good ol’ 90s shmup, then?
You’re in luck: H2 Interactive has announced that it’s bringing the Raiden Fighters Remix Collection to PS5 and PS4 worldwide on 26th February. That’s the same date as the Japanese release, so no need for imports or idle thumbs.
For those who don’t know, this collection bundles the masterpiece trilogy Raiden Fighters (1996), Raiden Fighters 2 (1997), and Raiden Fighters Jet (1998) in one nifty package.
You actually will be able to purchase each game individually from the PS Store if you prefer, but we’re not sure why you’d do that when they’re all good. A physical bundle with exclusive artwork will also be available worldwide.
As for the games themselves, well, they’re presented authentically – with some quality-of-life improvements.
Here are the modern conveniences you can expect, courtesy of the press release:
RetryA feature that allows players to return to the beginning of a stage has been newly added, which significantly improves the player’s efficiency.Beginner-FriendlyA special mode has been added in which enemies do not fire bullets at the player, making the game more accessible to newcomers.Settings CustomisationPlayers can start the game with their preferred settings pre-configured, allowing for a more personalised and convenient gameplay experience. Background Music CustomisationPlayers can customize the background music for each stage, with a wide selection of newly remixed tracks also included.
This being a remix collection, you can also expect 30 new rearranged songs from the likes of Soshi Hosoi, Yuki Arai, and Kazushi Tsurukubo.
A compelling package, then – but will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments section below.
