The first estimates for how Predator: Badlands will perform at the box office are in from Cinelytic (via Sci Fi & Fantasy Gazette). Cinelytic are projecting that the Predator sequel will ultimately earn $99.1 million at the domestic box office and $154.8 million internationally, giving it a worldwide total box office of $253.9 million.
Digging into the figures, Cinelytic are estimating that it will earn a domestic total of between $48.7 million and $189.2 million and internationally, between $76.1 million and $295.6 million. They expect Predator: Badlands will earn somewhere in the middle of that.
Rumours are that Predator: Badlands has a budget of $100 million – the highest unadjusted budget for any Predator film. So, where does the Predator: Badlands box office stack up with the previous films? It would be the highest-grossing Predator/AvP film, but if we look at the adjusted for inflation figures, it does surpass every film apart from the original Predator and 2004’s Alien vs Predator.
The confirmed PG-13/12A rating is a critical factor and will undoubtedly help with the box office totals, as it did for AvP. This broader rating allows the film to reach a significantly larger audience, including younger viewers, which is vital for hitting major domestic and international milestones.

Box Office Theory, on the other hand, is predicting a domestic total as low as $39 million towards a high of $60 million. We’ll see many more estimates come out from other companies in the coming days. Ultimately, early estimates suggest Predator: Badlands is positioned to be a major financial success for the franchise, but it will need to hold strong against the wildly different projections to clear its high production cost.
