Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are thought to have upset Sarah Ferguson after making a surprise announcement Princess Eugenie’s wedding day.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex discovered they were expecting their first child, Prince Archie, while still serving as working royals in 2018. Their happy news came just months after their fairytale Windsor wedding.

They decided to share their momentous announcement clashed on Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie’s wedding, and the move apparently ruffled some feathers.

While Harry and Meghan initially only confided in a select few guests at the celebration, Kensington Palace publicly confirmed the baby news shortly afterwards. Royal biographers Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claim the timing “did not go down particularly well” with Eugenie.

The wonderful news appeared to overshadow coverage of Eugenie’s marriage to Jack Brooksbank, reportedly infuriating her mother Sarah.

While Sarah, 65, never explicitly commented on the clash, she published multiple tweets celebrating Eugenie and Jack’s wedding, strategically timed with Kensington Palace’s official confirmation of Harry and Meghan’s pregnancy, The Express reports.

Sources suggest this was a deliberate dig at the Sussexes, with Fergie attempting to redirect attention back to the wedding through photographs. Palace insiders claimed Fergie was livid about the couple upstaging her daughter.

Despite Sarah’s alleged frustrations, Harry explained in his bombshell autobiography Spare why he chose to share the news with his royal family members during his cousin’s wedding day.

In his 2023 memoir, he revealed: “Euge was getting married, to Jack, and we were deliriously happy for them and for ourselves, selfishly, since Jack was one of our favourite people.”

He added: “Meg and I were supposed to head off on our first official foreign tour as a married couple, but we delayed the departure several days, so we could be at the wedding.

“Also, the various gatherings connected to the wedding would give us a chance to pull aside family members one by one and tell them our good news.”

The couple publicly announced their pregnancy on 15 October – just three days following Princess Eugenie’s wedding ceremony.

The awkward swipe has resurfaced as Sarah and her ex husband Andrew find themselves engulfed in a reignited scandal over their links to Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew’s royal life is in tatters after relinquishing his titles and honours. It has now been confirmed that he will leave Royal Lodge after weeks of pressure and ‘crunch talks’. Sarah will also leave the property she has lived in with Andrew for decades, and has been told to find her own accomodation.
