Liverpool forward finds net against Aston Villa to equal total for most goal involvements at one club

Mohamed Salah’s first-half goal for Liverpool in their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa was a landmark one for him in many ways.

When Salah pounced on Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s loose pass to slot a first-time finish into an unguarded net, it marked his 250th goal in all competitions for Liverpool.

He is only the third player to reach this number for the club, after Ian Rush (346 goals) and Roger Hunt (285).

“It’s a great feeling to score goals for such a big club, it’s something I don’t take for granted,” Salah told TNT Sports. “I’m so proud and happy about that achievement.”

The strike also moved him level with Wayne Rooney for the most goal involvements for one club in the Premier League.

His 276 Premier League goal involvements (188 goals, 88 assists) for Liverpool are equal to Rooney’s total (183 goals, 93 assists) for Manchester United.

Salah’s 279 goal involvements overall in the Premier League (including two goals and one assist at Chelsea) now place him joint-third in the rankings, alongside Frank Lampard (177 goals, 102 assists).

The Liverpool forward is behind only Wayne Rooney’s total of 311 (208 goals, 103 assists) and Alan Shearer’s 324 (260 goals and 64 assists).
