Benjamin Sesko struggled to make an impact for Manchester United as they drew with Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday, ending the three-match winning streak built by Ruben Amorim’s side.

Casemiro and Amad Diallo scored either side of Forest’s quickfire double, meaning the points were shared.

For the first time in his United career, Amorim named an unchanged XI in the Premier League, meaning Benjamin Sesko started up front alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

United fans weren’t impressed by Sesko as the Slovenian struggled up against the physical duo of Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic. Watching from afar, Gary Neville was equally unimpressed.

Last week, Gary Neville unfairly criticised Sesko against Brighton when he was heavily involved in much of the attacking play.

Against Forest, Sesko had no such defence. He was isolated and uninvolved. Even when found in dangerous areas, he wasn’t able to convert it into a goalscoring opportunity.

Speaking on NBC Sports after the full-time whistle, Neville was asked about Sesko’s performance.

“I’m no further forward with him in terms of the jury is out. I think he’s well off it compared to the other signings that United have made up front in Cunha and Mbeumo,” Neville said.

“He looks awkward. He had a couple of really good opportunities in the first half when balls got played over and his touch wasn’t right.

“For £80 million, you can say he is young and has a lot of potential. He is only settling in, but you still want to see a bit more.”

Benjamin Sesko can bounce back vs Tottenham

Neville is not the only United legend with his concerns, as Paul Scholes questioned Sesko’s signing last month.

Sesko was unfairly dubbed the worst signing of the window, and he has been fighting an uphill battle since his summer move.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha had the advantage of being experienced in the Premier League, and at 26 years old, they are in their prime.

As for Sesko, he arrived as a young prospect who has had to quickly adapt to new surroundings and a new division. Two goals and one assist in less than 600 minutes of Premier League football is not a bad outcome on paper.

Against Tottenham, Sesko should have more space to operate in the final third. Amorim will likely adopt a more direct approach again, which could suit Sesko and his characteristics.
