Dorset Echo Camera Club photographer Harry Meech captured the stunning image of four seals enjoying a splash around off Portland.

Harry said that it was ‘lovely to watch the four seals off the Portland coastline.’

Seal sightings along the Dorset coastline are a regular occurrence with the locally named Sammy the Seal becoming a bit of a celebrity a few summers ago in Weymouth.

Wildlife experts warn that it is important to keep a fair distance from the seals that come close to the shoreline.

It is also essential to respect the marine mammal’s space in order so as not cause it any distress.

The RSPCA also says that it is not unusual to see a seal or seal pup by itself as it could be resting.

There is a healthy number of seals often seen in the south west including the common seal and the grey seal – with plenty of sightings of groups near Portland Bill over the years.
