Burgess said all of the new album’s songs were about “love” and “the ups, the downs and the turnarounds” experienced during “35 years in a band with people you love”.
He added: “Hopefully it will propel us into the future.”
The singer said he was “really proud” the band had never split up during 35 years together.
Guitarist Baz Ketley said: “It felt really good to be back together because we wanted to make it not just alright but something that mattered.”
The Charlatans are currently touring the UK with gigs in venues including Glasgow, Cardiff, Manchester and London.
