A Welsh primary school has been closed by police due to threatening messages being made online. The decision has been made to close Dafen CP School in Llanelli on Monday, November 3.

Dyfed-Powys Police received information in the early hours of the morning “that required safeguarding action to be taken”, a statement from the force said. Working with Carmarthenshire County Council, the decision was taken to close the school. There is a police presence at the school and surrounding areas.

No other schools in the local area are affected by the incident.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We understand there will be concern among parents and school staff following the message that was issued earlier this morning.”

They added that “necessary and appropriate safeguarding measures” have been taken to ensure everyone is safe.

A statement from the force said: “Due to threatening messages being made online, Dafen CP School in Llanelli will be closed today.

“Dyfed-Powys Police received information at around 2.30am that required safeguarding action to be taken. Working with Carmarthenshire County Council, a decision has been made to close the school today.

“There is currently a police presence at the school and surrounding areas, and officers will remain in the area while enquiries are carried out.”

Police said updates will be issued when possible to ensure all those affected are kept aware of the situation.
