One of Huddersfield Giants’ released players from the 2025 season has found a new club, after signing a permanent deal to play in the Championship.
The Giants, whose departure list this off-season included the retiring Leroy Cudjoe as well as Jack and Jake Bibby, finished the season in 10th place, following an awful season plagued by injuries.
Darius Carter, who made his Giants debut in the 2024 season, but failed to make another appearance since that time, has spent time on loan in the second tier this season, so will already be accustomed to life in his new division.
The one-time Jamaican international joined Sheffield Eagles on a season-long loan in May, but only managed to make four appearances for Craig Lingard’s side, with his last coming in June.
After his exit from the Accu Stadium, the 21-year-old will make the local switch to Halifax Panthers, in what is their fourth signing ahead of next season.
Championship club sign released Huddersfield Giants man
Halifax, who have already announced deals for former Warrington Wolves man Alfie Johnson, as well as Bayley Liu and Ben Forster, have turned a trio of incomings into a quartet, with Carter penning a two-year deal.
Coached by former Leeds Rhinos and St Helens man, Kyle Eastmond, Carter hopes that this new chapter in his rugby league career will be positive, and is the correct path at this stage in his development.
“I’m very pleased to have signed with Halifax for 2 years,” Carter said to Panthers’ club website. “I feel like this is a great opportunity and challenge for my self going forward.”
“My conversations with Kyle were great, he has a very positive and clear plan with the club and I’m fully on board with what he wants to achieve. For those that might not know me, I can be quite a passionate player on the field and really want to help make a difference in a game when things are getting tough.
“I like to get the team on the front foot and get the set rolling, my most preferred position would be centre but I’m very capable on covering all edge 3 positions.”
“Halifax is a very close town and a great family club which I’ll be looking forward to be included in. I hope to be as successful as possible in a Halifax jersey and go as far as possible and as for my self I want to get to the top of my game and really add to the team in every way that I can.”
