Smoke could be seen billowing from the window of an eighth-floor flat.

A cordon was put in place around the flats, while crews checked properties on other floors of the building following the blaze, eyewitnesses said.

There are not currently believed to have been any injuries caused by the fire, the Manchester Evening News understands.

Investigation work is due to take place at the scene later today (Wednesday).

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At around 10.10pm on Tuesday (November 4) seven fire engines from across GMFRS plus an aerial ladder platform and the air unit attended a fire on the eighth floor of a high-rise building on Brownley Court Road, Wythenshawe.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus evacuated residents using smoke hoods and extinguished the fire.

“Crews worked to make the scene safe and were in attendance for around two hours and 20 minutes.”

Police were also called out to a two-car crash on nearby Styal Road, close to Manchester Airport, at around the same time last night.

Styal Road was closed off in both directions. No injuries were reported from the collision, GMP said.
