The Great British Bake Off has a new winner after a tense finale on Tuesday (November 4) night. Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith named Scots student Jasmine Mitchell as the champion and fans could not have been any happier for the baker.
Viewers have grown to love each contestant over the last couple of months leading up to an intense decider, with 23-year-old Jasmine coming out on top against fellow competitors Tom Arden and Aaron Mountford-Myles. The medical student had managed to claim the top spot of Star Bake on five different occasions.
The Scot, who hails from Edinburgh but now lives in London, where she is studying to be a doctor, opened up in the final episode about her intense schedule while filming.
Jasmine was juggling filming and practising and perfecting her baking skills while taking her medical exams.
Across the final three challenges Jasmine produced bakes of a high standard, earning Paul and Prue’s taste of approval, which she has kept up across the ten weeks of the competition.
Her iced finger buns in the Signature Challenge were particularly praised by the judging duo. Although she placed third in the Technical Challenge, she bounced back to take the crown following her impressive Showstopper.

The three were then tasked with making the largest cake in Bake Off history with Jasmine creating what she described as a “ridiculously long cake” at 1.2m in just four hours and 30 minutes.
Jasmine’s lavishly decorated cake featured multiple different flavours, with the cake’s delicate sponge impressing Paul and Prue.
Speaking about winning the competition, Jasmine said: “I hope that in winning Bake Off I have made my friends, family and Scotland proud.
I miss being in Scotland a lot, I grew up in Edinburgh and it’s a big part of my heritage. I feel like the more time I spend in London, the more I long to be in the Scottish Highlands!”

A second wrote: “So bloomin pleased for Jasmine. She was amazing throughout and I loved her confidence.” Another echoed this statement, stating: “Jasmine was truly deserving of that win. What a little ray of sunshine she is.”

Another fan commented: “The right person won this year! Tom had a great final but she’s been in a league of her own all series! 5 Star Bakers says it all. Loved her.”
Throughout her time on the show, Jasmine opened up about living with alopecia, the medical term for hair loss, since the age of 12 and her decision to live her life without wearing a wig.
