Bryan Robson spoke passionately about Casemiro being one of his “favourite” players in the current Manchester United squad.

As things stand, Casemiro’s contract is set to expire next summer, meaning the Brazilian midfielder will depart Old Trafford as a free agent.

Ineos face a big decision over whether to extend Casemiro’s contract or allow the five-time Champions League winner to leave.

It is undeniable that Casemiro is a leader in this United squad, and his experience on football’s biggest stage is priceless.

But at 33 years old, United will eventually need to move on from Casemiro and replace him in Ruben Amorim’s starting XI.

After a disappointing 2024/25 season, Casemiro was expected to leave by the majority of the fanbase. However, the Brazilian wanted to stay put at United and turn things around.

He has done just that this season. Amorim explained that Casemiro was at the bottom of his pecking order last season, but he is now a first-choice midfielder alongside Bruno Fernandes.

Speaking to talkSPORT, United legend Bryan Robson was asked about Casemiro’s future at the club.

“Casemiro is one of my favourite players. In the last year, he wasn’t so good, but he played really well in all the European games,” Robson said.

“The year before, I thought he was outstanding. He’s a really intelligent footballer, he’s tough, he’s a great passer of the ball.

“People keep talking about his legs and maybe he’s not quick enough, but for me, if you have a really intelligent footballing brain then that makes up for a lack of pace.

“I think he’s still a big part of Manchester United this season.”

Man United already planning for Casemiro exit

Under Ineos ownership, United have seen a drastic improvement in their transfer plans and squad management.

It is known that United want a midfielder in 2026 as a top priority after it was not strengthened over the summer.

Casemiro could be kept on for another year following his impressive 2025/26 campaign, but that won’t stop United from going out and buying his long-term replacement.

Manuel Ugarte was seen as the heir to Casemiro, but he has struggled for minutes under Amorim and looks more likely to be moved on.

Instead, United are being linked with the likes of Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson as their next star midfielder.
