SmartScripts is paying more than $132,000 to settle a lawsuit in which it’s accused of selling counterfeit Ozempic weight-loss medication in 2023. New court filings state the pharmacy based in Washington, Iowa, owes that amount to Central Pharmacy Management, based in Lansing, Michigan. SmartScripts shipped 15 cases of medication to Central Pharmacy Management in December 2023, according to the Iowa Board of Pharmacy. It claims SmartScripts wasn’t aware it had purchased counterfeit Ozempic until days after it shipped the medication.SmartScripts has already paid $25,000 on Oct. 21. It now owes more than $107,000 plus interest. The pharmacy was already fined $25,000, and its license was placed on probation for five years.
