State pensioners are beginning to notice payments worth up to £300 landing in their bank accounts.

The Government has started handing out this year’s Winter Fuel Payments to around nine million older Brits to help with heating costs.

Cash started entering bank accounts from the start of November.

However, money is arriving at different times for pensioners, and will continue to drop into accounts this week.

People should not worry if payments don’t arrive just yet.

Winter Fuel Payments are issued throughout November and into December.

So it’s a good idea to keep a check on accounts over the next few weeks so you know the cash has arrived.

The majority of seniors are eligible for the winter allowance this year following rule changes.

Pensioners qualify if they have annual incomes under £35,000.

Those who get over that amount won’t be eligible.

However, they will initially receive the payments before they are claimed back by HMRC at a later point.

Winter Fuel Payments are worth either £200 or £300 depending on age, with over-80s getting the higher amount.
