Realistically, both teams need to win this fixture in order to keep pace with league leaders Arsenal, who play Sunderland on Saturday.
Going into the match, it is Arne Slot’s side who the pundits are backing to enjoy the most success.
Speaking in his Sportskeeda column, former Arsenal and Middlesbrough star Paul Merson predicted a dominant 3-1 win for the away side.
He said: “Liverpool have found some confidence now. Arne Slot has also gone back to his best full-back pairing and midfield combination.
“When you have Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai as your three in midfield against City, you have got to be the favourites.”
Meanwhile, Alan Shearer had a different view, pointing out that Erling Haaland will like how Liverpool set up. He backed the game to end as a draw.
Speaking to the Metro, Shearer said: “Liverpool like to play a high line which will suit Haaland, but they had so much more protection in midweek against Real Madrid and more of it last weekend.
“They have to carry that on which will be tough with Man City in decent form and Haaland looks unplayable at the moment.”

Ahead of the match, Slot confirmed Alexander Isak has returned to training, but did not share whether he would feature on November 8.
Elsewhere, Alisson and Jeremie Frimpong will miss out, but the duo are expected back after the international break.
He said: “Alisson for sure. And I expect Jeremie back after the international break as well because we play from November until March!
“But I don’t expect Jeremie to be fully fit for Forest. But with Alisson, we expect this, yes.”
There are also question marks over whether Andy Robertson will be fit enough to start.
Slot said on the Scotsman: “Robbo started three games in seven days as he started against Crystal Palace.
“I had to take him off towards the end [versus Real Madrid]. I felt he was tired but we will wait to see where he is today.”
