It comes after new rules for this year were drawn up by the Government
HMRC will be taking cash back from some pensioners.
HMRC will be taking money back from certain pensioners over the coming weeks and months.
Winter Fuel Payments, worth up to £300, will be claimed back from certain people under new rules.
Initially all pensioners are being handed the payments but not everyone will get to keep them under what could be a confusing system.

Only those with annual incomes under £35,000 qualify for the winter allowance and will get to keep the money.
Around four million others with higher incomes aren’t eligible, so will have the payments taken back by HMRC.
This should happen automatically in most cases through PAYE so households won’t have to do anything.
But they should be aware money landing in their bank accounts won’t technically theirs, so should be wary about this if spending it.
These rules are in place for the first time this year following a shake-up to Winter Fuel Payments.
In previous years the cash was universal for all over-65s before being scaled back massively in 2024 by the new Labour Government.
The inevitable backlash that followed forced ministers to think again and come up with a plan to cover all those on lower incomes while preventing money being wasted on wealthier retirees.

While potentially confusing, the new system was seen as the easiest way of separating those who do and don’t qualify this year.
Some Brits may have already received their Winter Fuel Payments, which started being handed out at the beginning of November.
But they will continue to be issued during November and December.
