Asia Cup trophy dispute
India won the 2025 Asia Cup after defeating Pakistan in a thrilling final in Dubai but, in a bizarre turn of events, could not receive the trophy.
The Indian side insisted on not taking the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi who also happens to be the head of the PCB. Naqvi also holds the portfolio of the Interior minister of Pakistan in the current Shehbaz Sharif-led government. He also had made controversial social media posts regarding India.
Naqvi was adamant that only he will be presenting the trophy and after both sides refused to relent from their positions, the ACC chief left the stadium with the silverware. Indian players were left to celebrate only with an imaginary trophy.
Since then, BCCI and PCB have been engaged in a standstill over the trophy handover. The trophy currently lies in the ACC headquarters in Dubai with reportedly there being strict instructions to not move it without the permission of Naqvi who still remains adamant that BCCI can only collect the trophy by him.
