The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided at its meeting in Doha on Saturday to organize more events, including a Legend of Asia event and a league among associate members, according to a report. Some of these events will take place in Oman and Doha, where facilities have recently improved.

An ACC spokesman told Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net) that the decision to hold new events was inspired by the success of the Asia Cup, held in the United Arab Emirates in September this year.

“The meeting, chaired by ACC President Mohsin Naqvi of Pakistan, focused on arrangements for the Rising Stars Asia Cup, previously known as the Emerging Asia Cup,” said the spokesman, referring to the eight-nation T20 event scheduled from November 14 to 23 in Doha.

The upgraded facilities in Doha played a role in the decision. “The viewership of the Asia Cup exceeded expectations, encouraging the ACC Board to host a Legend of Asia event and a league among ACC associate members,” the source told www.telecomasia.net.

Naqvi has instructed ACC management to develop a comprehensive plan for these events. “We need to promote cricket in new Asian countries, and the ACC will fully support these efforts,” Naqvi said after the meeting.

The Rising Stars Asia Cup will feature a group match between Pakistan and India on November 14, which also includes Oman and the UAE. Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong are the other participating teams, according to the report.

ACC and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials are awaiting India’s response to interacting with Pakistani players. Additionally, if India wins the event, it remains to be seen if the players will receive the trophy from Naqvi, who is scheduled to be the chief guest for the final.
