Police have launched a murder investigation after a young man was stabbed to death in broad daylight.

The 20-year-old was fatally attacked at around 12.50pm today (Monday, November 10) and emergency services have been at the scene in St Ann’s since.

Paramedics tried to save the victim but he died shortly after they arrived. The force did not say if any arrests had been made.

Chief Superintendent Nick Waldram appealed for witnesses and said a team of detectives are working “tirelessly” to find those responsible.

He said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family during this incredibly difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

“Detectives are already working to understand exactly what happened in the moments before, during and after this incident.

“They want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything which could assist our inquiries.

“No matter how insignificant you think your information may be, we want to hear from you.

“People in the area will understandably be concerned, but we currently believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.

“We know the impact this incident will have on the local community and therefore will be increasing patrols to provide reassurance while inquiries continue.”
