Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez assessed the skills of Terence Crawford following their historic clash.
Canelo was dethroned of his undisputed super-middleweight championship when he faced ‘Bud’ at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday September 13.
Canelo now finds himself at a crossroads in his professional career, although the 35-year-old from Guadalajara is expected to fight on and honour the remainder of the multi-fight deal that he signed with Riyadh Season at the beginning of the year. Where he goes and who he targets remains unclear, with a rematch still a possibility.
More intriguing, perhaps, is who Crawford decides to face next. If that is not a rematch, it is safe to say Canelo will likely back him to win. Speaking at the post-fight press conference, he paid Crawford the ultimate compliment, saying ‘he has everything.’
“Everything [gave me trouble]. He has everything. We knew Crawford is a great fighter. I did what I was supposed to do, right? I tried for every way. I trained very hard. He deserves all the credit. I tried my best. I couldn’t figure out the style.”
Crawford has suggested that he may drop down one division to middleweight and look to become a champion in a fifth class. To do that, he has said ‘he has eyes on’ Janibek Alimkhanuly, who looks to unify his WBO and IBF titles against WBA Champion Erislandy Lara on December 6.
