Who doesn’t love to see affordable supermarkets opening in their area? With Christmas around the corner (yes, only six Fridays to go – don’t say we didn’t warn you) having somewhere cheap(er) to buy pigs and blankets is a bonus.

The member-owned super market chain Co-op plans to open 51 stores across the UK over the next few weeks before December 25 comes around. These openings will consist of a mix of new shops, smaller branches – called Co-op On The Go – and reopenings, and they’ll bring Co-op’s total number of outlets in Britain up to 2,500.

If you live in London, you could be close to four new shops in the capital, while Scotland will welcome 10 new supermarkets, including several in the Highlands. Wales will see three openings, and the remaining 27 stores will be spread across England.

Every location will offer exclusive cheaper prices to members, parcel pick-up services, and delivery via Co-op’s online store as well as partners such as Just Eat, Deliveroo, and Uber Eats.

Shirine Khoury-Haq, Co-op Group CEO, said: ‘We’re investing in stores and communities right across the UK because we believe in the future of the high street. But sustained growth needs certainty. Business-rates reform is vital if retailers – especially the 99% who run small stores – are to plan with confidence, protect jobs and keep local economies thriving.’
