Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland lies injured after clashing with Auston Trusty
Rangers have been urged not to cry conspiracy over refereeing decisions or risked being poked with the same paranoia stick Celtic were.
The Ibrox club demanded further meetings with the Scottish FA after the KMI panel backed up the decision to only book Austin trusty for kicking Jack Butland in the head during the Hoops’ Premier Sports Cup semi-final win at Hampden.
This was after an “unsatisfactory meeting” with refs boss Willie Collum prior to the KMI panel verdicts being released, with the Ibrox club reportedly reviewing officiating trends across multiple campaigns and see the latest incident as part of a broader pattern rather than an isolated mistake”.
Record Sport has since revealed that Collum will personally back the decision not to send Trusty off, which isn’t likely to improve the mood music surrounding refs in Govan.
Our man Keith Jackson tackled the latest developments on the latest episode of Hotline Live.
And his message for the Gers hierarchy was to drop the suggestion that this is all part of some wider plot, having seen it before from the other side of Glasgow when the roles were reversed and it was red, white and blue ribbons on almost every trophy in Scotland.
“Despite the many Rangers grievances, what I’m uncomfortable with is this sort of suggestion from Rangers that this isn’t to be viewed as a one-off incident,” said Jacko. “There’s something broader, there’s a bigger pattern going on here.
“Come on guys, what are we saying here? Because Scottish football has been through enough periods of people wrapping themselves up in tinfoil hats.
‘We’ve been there, we’ve done it, it does the game no benefit and I think Rangers would be well advised to step back from that narrative if that’s the one that they’re trying to paint.
“What are they saying? Are they suggesting that Scottish football is corrupt? That’s what the suggestion is.
‘It wasn’t right when it was stated previously. There was a period of time when Celtic were having to look up to Rangers in terms of their position in the league table over a number of years and the number of trophies.
“That became a bit of a narrative from Celtic, and it also became a bit of a stick to poke Celtic with. Paranoia.
“Rangers, having been toppled off of top spot, are now resorting to the same sort of stuff and I don’t like it.
“I don’t think the optics of it are good for Rangers or the people in charge of Rangers.
“They’ve got to be bigger and better than that.”
