In the year 2025, it’s almost quite difficult to remember the intensity of the feud between the Gallagher brothers. The power of the Oasis reunion cannot be understated for that reason alone, as suddenly, the two past enemies are friends once more, sharing the stage and coming together to play their old tunes.
But the situation between the brothers was really quite terrible. It turns out that if you put an already complex brotherly bond in the spotlight, it will likely blow up as the pressure of rock and roll fame took the Gallaghers from typical sibling spats to fights so bad that it tore the band apart and led to years of vitriol being thrown back and forth at one another in the press.
“I’ve never forgiven him because he’s never apologised,” was Noel’s line on whatever the core of their fall-out was. On the flip side, Liam said, “I wasn’t going to let him walk all over me”. No one was giving in. Until, suddenly, in August 2024, the white flag of a new tour announcement appeared – the band were back. Clearly, time can be a healer. Either that, or a huge amount of money did the trick.
Throughout it all, though, even in the worst moments of their feud, there was no escaping the tie that bound them together because there was no escaping the power and popularity of Oasis tunes.
At their individual concerts, both still played the hits, and in every interview ever, the band inevitably came up. It kept them together, and, clearly, as both revealed they shared the same favourite Oasis tune, it was still something that represented the best of them.
“My personal favourite probably from the Oasis lot would be ‘Supersonic’, which was our first single, and because it was written, recorded and mixed in one night,” Noel Gallagher said. His response to the question of his favourite Oasis tune always comes quick and always lands here. To him, there is no beating the first time, as ‘Supersonic’ embodies the magic of the early days when the brothers were first collaborating and finding their power.
Liam is typically more sheepish. He tends to dance around the question more, likely because he doesn’t want to come right out and say that ‘Supersonic’ is his, too, but it is. When asked for his favourite Oasis lyrics, he sings, “I need to be myself, I can’t be no one else, I’m feeling supersonic, Give me gin and tonic.”
“I like the words, I like the guitars in it and I still find it an odd tune,” he said with affection for the debut single that still seems like a baffling miracle to him. “It’s not like your normal rock and roll tune and still enjoy singing it,” he told Absolute Radio.
‘Supersonic’ seems like a unanimously bonding track amongst the band and their team. Even their manager, Alan McGee, picks out the making of the track as “probably the single greatest moment I’ve ever experienced with them.”
So even despite the fallouts, the bond will never be broken ,and the memories of the good times can never truly be wiped from their mutual favourite song.
