Columbus Crew boss Wilfried Nancy
Next boss favourite Wilfried Nancy has tackled his links to Celtic head on – and refused to commit to Columbus Crew beyond the end of the current season.
The manager is understood to be high up on the Hoops’ wishlist of potential permanent bosses on the back of the bombshell departure of Brendan Rodgers.
Martin O’Neill is in the hotseat on an interim basis at Celtic Park but Record Sport revealed that Celtic chiefs have been down south conducting interviews and a new man could be in place for the Premiership clash away to St Mirren on Saturday, November 22.
And with Nancy emerging as the oddsmakers favourite for the vacant post, he was asked directly about the prospect of heading for the Scottish champions now the MLS season has concluded for Columbus.
Pressed on if he would be at the club beyond 2025, the coy Frenchman said: “I’m not here to talk about myself. I have nothing to say about any kind of reports.”
Record Sport understands the 48-year-old won’t come cheap should a deal be stuck – with Columbus Crew looking to bag a multi-million dollar compensation package.
Nancy penned a new long-term contract with the MLS outfit in 2024 and while the length of the deal has been kept secret sources Stateside suggest it was over ‘several years’, likely to at least 2027.
He is one of the highest paid head coaches in the US – where top earners pocket up to $1.5m a year – and his no.2 Kwame Ampadu – who has close ties with Celtic head of football operations Paul Tisdale – would also be expected to be part of the package.
