Widnes Vikings are pleased to reveal our eighth new addition ahead of the 2026 season, as promising halfback Toby Hughes arrives at the DCBL Stadium from North Wales Crusaders.
Hughes, 22, joins the Vikings on a one-year deal, having made 28 appearances for Crusaders over the last two seasons, crossing for six tries.
The talented halfback earned the Welsh clubs’ Try of the Season award for 2025.
On signing for the club, Hughes said: “I’m made up to sign for such a huge club. I have a lot of family who are lifelong Widnes fans, and I went to the games as a young kid, so it’s a massive thing for me, and I’m just ready to get stuck into pre-season.
“What excites me the most is the quality that’s already in the squad, especially as a young player to learn from the halves that are already in the club, which is going to be massive for my development.”
Head Coach Allan Coleman commented: “I’m really pleased to get Toby in. I coached him previously as part of the England Community Lions, and he went on to sign on for North Wales.
“He had a difficult spell at the start of last season, but at the back end of the year, he got his chance in the team and he took it.
“He’s a player we can have at the club for a long time. I’m really happy to get him and see how he develops, and it gives us some really good options in the halves now.”
